Il est sorti le 17 novembre 2003 au niveau international.

Après les derniers concerts de son Dream Within A Dream Tour à Mexico en juillet 2002, Britney a décidé de prendre un peu de temps pour elle. Quelques semaines plus tard, elle était déjà de retour en studio pour expérimenter de nouvelles choses, avec divers producteurs. Au revoir donc les Max Martin et autres Neptunes. Place à Christopher 'Tricky' Stewart et Penelope Magnet, qui ont ensuite travaillé avec Rihanna, et Bloodshy & Avant, producteurs suédois qui travaillent depuis avec Britney. La plupart des titres ont été co-écrits par Britney, ce qui est une premlière dans la carrière de la chanteuse. Chaque chanson s'inscrit dans un style de musique différent. Ainsi, nous passons du hip-hop avec (I Got That) Boom Boom à la pop pure comme sur le titre Showdown au titre sensuel/sexy Breathe On Me et Touch Of My Hand, à la balade avec Shadow et Everytime. Nous faisons de même une excursion dans l'univers ragga/reggae avec The Hook Up et l'urban music avec The Answer, produit par P. Diddy. Deux ovnis: Toxic, mélange de pop, de dance et de cordes bollywood et Early Mornin', titre produit par Moby qui mélange pop et ambient...
L'album s'est écoulé à 11.25 millions d'exemplaires, dont près de 3 millions rien qu'aux États-Unis et 290000 en France...

Petite histoire perso:

Cet album est l'un de mes préférés. Il voyage à travers différents styles de musique. Aucune chanson ne ressemble à l'autre. Comme beaucoup d'autres fans, je trouve que chaque chanson pourrait sans problème sortir en single. Chaque titre a un grand potentiel et permet à un large public de se rendre compte que Britney peut quitter son étiquette de chanteuse pop sucrée et offrir des morceaux aux sonorités différentes. Même si j'aime l'intégralité des titres présents sur l'album, mes chansons préférées de cet opus sont Breathe On Me et Toxic. Le premier car on entend une Britney plus sexy et plus sensuelle. Le deuxième car il me fait penser à un titre ovni, inclassable. Cet album reste une référence pour les fans de Britney.
